Scott graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia, with a degree in Fish & Wildlife Management and Research in 1986. He began his career as an entry level Fishery Biologist with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. He moved around within the state conducting research and management on largemouth bass, Striped Bass, black crappie, bream and catfish. His experienced ranged from small ponds to large river systems such as the St. Johns and Suwannee Rivers. to overseeing a team of scientist and managers from all divisions working in the Florida Everglades. During his 21 year tenure there, Scott was invited by multiple states to give presentations on small pond research and management due to his success in Jacksonville Florida managing small ponds for the city with some of the highest angling effort in t estate. The program won an award from the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
In spring 2007 Scott opened the doors to his own business leaving behind public service and concentrating on private waterbodies and helping landowners improve their fisheries and achieve their goals throughout the southeast from Texas to Florida and into the Carolinas. Southern Sportsman Aquatics & Land Management clients range from having a one acre pond to several thousand acre reservoirs. Scott brings his wealth of knowledge form around the south to help all his clients achieve their greatest potential.
Scott was born and raised in Missouri, where he and his father hunted and fished every chance they got. Scott from a young age wanted to be a fish and wildlife biologist. His love for the outdoors has guided him to a career helping others to enjoy their outdoors. Scott has also conveyed his outdoor passion to his son, who they now experience the outdoors together while hunting and fishing. Thirty years ago Scott started taring hunting retrievers (Labradors) and has become very good and enjoys every minute with his wetland warriors.
Besides being known nationally for giving presentations on Pond Management, Scott also has been a regular contributing author for the award winning magazine Wildlife Trends Journal for the past 10 years. His articles and photographs in every issue cover lake and pond management written in detail that can be understood for the do-it-yourself lake manager and techniques applied to their own waterbody.
Scott is an avid supporter of various conservation organizations including Ducks Unlimited, The National Wild Turkey Federation, The National Deer Association and The American Fisheries Society. Scott has been a member and volunteer for DU since 1993 and has been a committee member, Area Chairman three years, District Chairman six years, Regional Chairman since 2020, District Chairman of the Year four times and North Carolina DU Volunteer of the year. Him and his wife Kim have been Life Sponsor for DU since 2016.
